The answer is a short flight away, on the KwaZulu-Natal North Coast, where the sea stays swimmable at 21°C to 23°C all winter long.

This is the holiday more and more Cape Town families are quietly booking each winter. Not a long-haul escape, not a passport and a layover. Just a short flight to a coastline that does not get the memo about winter, and a self-catering apartment at Shakas Rock waiting at the other end.
